Sanjeev Jha: Dhrupad’s Transcendent Ambassador

Sanjeev Jha, a pioneering Dhrupad artist and co-founder of Dhrupad Bandhu, combines rigorous training, global performances, and dedicated education to preserve and evolve the ancient art form, shaping its trajectory on national and international stages.

Sanjeev Jha, an innovative Dhrupad artist from Bihar, is celebrated for his expertise in the "Dagarvaani" style, having received formal training from Padmashri Umakant and Ramakant Gundecha. Since 2014, he, alongside Manish Kumar, has actively shaped the Dhrupad landscape as the dynamic duo known as Dhrupad Bandhu. Their collaborative journey is marked by intensive training, dynamic performances, and dedicated teaching efforts, significantly influencing the evolution of this ancient art form.

Under the guidance of Ustad Habeeb Khan and Pandit Arun Bhaduri, Sanjeev earned a Bachelor's in Music from Banaras Hindu University and a Master's in Music from Delhi University. He holds the distinction of being the first male Dhrupad singer trained at the Dhrupad Sansthan through the Guru Shishya Parampara since 2007.

Sanjeev's global impact is evident through his participation in the ICCR team during a Five-country Dhrupad tour across Singapore, Philippines, Belgium, Argentina, and Brazil. Beyond captivating audiences worldwide, he serves as a dedicated Dhrupad educator in Delhi and a valued member of the Dhrupad faculty at Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra.

As a visiting Professor at Ashoka University in Sonepat, Haryana, Sanjeev extends his influence by guiding undergraduate students. Additionally, he co-founded Naadyatra Foundation, an NGO dedicated to elevating the meditative essence of Indian Raag music. In their collaborative efforts, Sanjeev Jha and Manish Kumar, as Dhrupad Bandhu, not only preserve the rich heritage of Dhrupad but also contribute to its continued evolution through captivating performances, dedicated teaching, and impactful initiatives on both national and global stages.
