Trained under eminent gurus including Padmashri Guru Smt. Chitra Visweswaran, Kalamandalam Venkitt, Smt. Thankamani Kutty, and Acharya Anusuya Banerjee, Debjani Chatterjee brings both purity of tradition and depth of scholarship to her art. Her practice reflects a disciplined engagement with Bharatanatyam, shaped by rigorous training, expressive clarity, and sustained research.
A recipient of honours such as Natyashri, Bengal Excellence Award, Kala Kanmani, Nataraja Nritya Samman, Natyamani, and Uday Shankar Nrityasanman, she is known for her solo and group productions, as well as her research-based thematic choreographies. She has performed, lectured, and conducted workshops across India and abroad.
A lecturer of Zoology and external examiner at Rabindra Bharati University, she is also the founder-director of Prabaha Kalabhoomi, Kolkata, where she has trained students for over two decades. Through performance, pedagogy, research, and institution-building, Debjani Chatterjee continues to enrich the classical dance tradition with grace, intellect, and devotion.
