Amie Maciszewski | A Journey Woven in Strings and Heritage
Amie Maciszewski, through the Sangeet Millennium Ensemble, connects the deep roots of South Asian music with fresh, global sounds, creating something entirely her own.

Amie Maciszewski is a sitarist, educator, and ethnomusicologist whose work bridges cultures and artistic expressions. For nearly five decades, she has performed, taught, and researched the music of South Asia, appearing across North America, India, Pakistan, Europe, and Japan. Trained in Santiniketan under Pandit Suresh Misra, and later with Ustad Aashish Khan and Padmavibhushan Girija Devi, her music carries a deep sense of lineage and cultural authenticity.

As the founder of the Sangeet Millennium Ensemble, Amie has developed a distinctive musical language that blends Hindustani classical traditions with global influences. Her ethnographic films explore the lives of marginalized women entertainers in India, while her extensive residencies and workshops—over two hundred to date—have created meaningful spaces for cultural and musical exchange across diverse communities.

Her contributions have been recognized by numerous arts organizations, including the Texas Commission on the Arts, alongside honours such as the Gandharva Award. Holding a PhD in Ethnomusicology and two Fulbright awards, Amie Maciszewski continues to foster cross-cultural dialogue, shaping a musical journey that resonates across traditions and geographies.
