Amie Maciszewski, through the Sangeet Millennium Ensemble, connects the deep roots of South Asian music with fresh, global sounds, creating something entirely her own.
Amie Maciszewski is a sitarist, educator, and ethnomusicologist whose work bridges cultures and artistic expressions. For nearly five decades, she has performed, taught, and researched the music of South Asia, appearing across North America, India, Pakistan, Europe, and Japan. Trained in Santiniketan under Pandit Suresh Misra, and later with Ustad Aashish Khan and Padmavibhushan Girija Devi, Amie’s music carries deep cultural authenticity. Founder of the Sangeet Millennium Ensemble, she creates a unique blend of Hindustani classical music and global fusion. Her ethnographic films explore the lives of marginalized women entertainers in India, while her residencies and workshops—over 200 to date—foster cultural and musical immersion in diverse communities.
Amie’s work has been recognized by numerous arts organizations, including the Texas Commission on the Arts, and she has earned prestigious honors like the Gandharva Award. With a PhD in Ethnomusicology and two Fulbright awards, Amie continues to inspire cross-cultural dialogue through her music.
