Sashwat Ishaan Shankar: Innovating the Kathak Narrative

Sashwat Ishaan Shankar, an influential Kathak artist and mentor, passionately advances the cultural and healing aspects of dance in society.

Sashwat Ishaan Shankar, born into a lineage of celebrated artists, commenced his Kathak journey at 12, accompanying his sister and guru, Vidushi Shreemati Mahua Shankar, in SPICMACAY's Rajasthan circuit. He is a Gandhabandh Shagird of Ustad Ghulam Sabir Khan Sahab. During the pandemic, Sashwat produced the virtual piece "Hathaori" and served as a dance assistant and rehearsal coordinator. His performances span Ibtida and SPICMACAY circuits.

As an educator at the Guru Pradeep Shankar Academy of Performing and Promoting Arts, he elevates Kathak beyond mere dance, integrating its aesthetics and healing aspects into his teachings. Sashwat collaborates with NGOs, schools, and corporate firms, promoting Kathak among diverse age groups. His mission is to build character in children and alleviate corporate stress, showcasing Kathak's transformative power.
