Uma MB’s art is a deeply personal reflection of human emotion, blending watercolor, pencil, and pen with inspiration from poetry, music, and dance.
Born on March 23, 1960, in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, Uma MB has pursued her artistic journey without formal instruction, developing her skills through a personal and intuitive process. With an MA in Modern Indian History from Calcutta University, she initially taught at RKSM Sister Nibedita Girls’ School in Kolkata before transitioning into freelance work in art and craft. Watercolor is her primary medium, but she also explores the intricacies of pencil and pen, each piece expressing layers of emotion and reflection.
Her creative flow is shaped by poetry, music, and dance, guiding the energy and sensitivity in her work. Uma has exhibited in group shows in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and other cities. Her accolades include first place at Roorkee University’s Annual Show (Amateur Category, 2000), selections for the IWS Delhi Biennale in 2017 and 2022, and a third-place award at the AIFACS Annual Watercolor Show in 2019.
