A senior-most Gandabandh disciple of the legendary Pt. Durga Lal of the Jaipur Gharana, Uma Dogra began her Kathak training at the age of six and later refined her art under the direct guidance of her guru. Her practice reflects a deep commitment to the aesthetics, rhythm, and expressive storytelling that define the Kathak tradition.
With a career spanning more than five decades, she has performed extensively across India and in over 300 cities worldwide. As a choreographer, Uma Dogra has created numerous acclaimed productions that weave traditional Kathak vocabulary with contemporary thematic explorations, expanding the narrative potential of the form.
She is the Founder and Managing Trustee of the Samved Society for Performing Arts, through which she organizes the prestigious Pt. Durgalal Festival and the Raindrops Festival, platforms that nurture emerging artists and sustain the vitality of classical dance. An author, educator, and cultural ambassador, Uma Dogra continues to inspire audiences and students worldwide while championing artistic excellence, compassion, and cultural harmony.
