Sangita Chatterjee: Fostering Kathak Tradition and Innovation

Sangita Chatterjee leads Kalpataru Arts, blending the lyrical beauty of the Lucknow Gharana with insightful choreography and international projects, mentoring emerging talents and creating acclaimed works like "Yagyaseni" and "Hridoy Majhe Bangla."

 

Sangita Chatterjee, a celebrated Kathak artist and disciple of Guru Smt. Vaswati Misra, exemplifies the lyrical grace and intricate rhythms of the Lucknow Gharana. With dual M.A. degrees in History & Tourism Management and Kathak from Khairagarh University, she enriches her choreography with profound introspection. Her solo productions, such as “Yagyaseni” and “Hridoy Majhe Bangla,” were notably performed at Rashtrapati Bhawan. International collaborations, including “Ramayan” in Tokyo, highlight her expansive influence. Recognized by ICCR, SPICMACAY, and the Ministry of Culture, she has received awards like Sringar Mani and Jayadev Samman. 

As the founder-director of Kalpataru Arts in C.R. Park, New Delhi, she mentors emerging talents and curates festivals blending classical Indian dance with contemporary interpretations. Sangita represented India at the Delphic Games in South Korea and produced acclaimed short films during the lockdown. Her global presence includes performances and lectures across Europe, Asia, Africa, and America. As a motivational speaker, she imparts insights on wellness and women’s empowerment at esteemed platforms worldwide.
