Richa Jain: Weaving Gharana Traditions in Kathak

Richa Jain, a Kathak artist of unparalleled talent, captivates with her unique fusion of Lucknow, Jaipur, and Benaras Gharanas, creating a harmonious blend of movement and melody.

Richa Jain, an icon of Kathak, began her dance journey at three under the mentorship of her parents, the late Guru Shri. Ravi Jain and Guru Smt. Nalini Malhotra Jain. Her performances blend the nuanced styles of Lucknow, Jaipur, and Benaras Gharanas. With vocal training from Shri Ajit Kumar Mishra and Guru Pt. A. Maheshwar Rao of the Gwalior Gharana, she rejuvenates the ancient “Katha Vachan Parampara” with her dual mastery of dance and song.

Celebrated as an A-grade performer on Doordarshan and an esteemed artist with ICCR and the Ministry of Culture, Richa has enraptured audiences worldwide. Her honors include ‘Shringar Mani’ from Sur Singar Samsad and the Late Kathak Samrat Pt. Chabinath Misra Kathak Samman. Through her organization, Kala Kunj, she fosters the next generation of Kathak artists. Holding degrees from Jesus and Mary College and Khairagarh University, she is now pursuing a Ph.D. in Dance.
