Ragini Chandershekar: Bharatanatyam’s Leading Light

With a 35-year legacy, Ragini Chandershekar is a Bharatanatyam icon, known for her rhythmic precision and emotive depth, and celebrated for her unparalleled performances.

 Ragini Chandershekar ranks among the finest Bharatanatyam dancers of her generation. Trained by her mother, Guru Jamuna Krishnan, and Guru K.J. Govindarajan, Ragini’s advanced training includes guidance from great masters like Kalaimamani Guru K.N. Dakshinamoorthy Pillai and Padmabhushan Smt. Kalanidhi Narayanan. An accomplished classical singer, her musicality was nurtured under Guru S. Gopalakrishnan. Trained in Nattuvangam by Vidwan Karaikudi Shivakumar, Ragini's performances sparkle with rhythmic precision and expressive depth. 

With a career spanning over 35 years, she has graced prestigious stages like The Sangeet Natak Akademi Swarnotsav Festival and Musee Guimet, Paris. Her accolades include the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, Yuva Kala Bharati, and the IIDF Award for Bharatanatyam. As an educator at Kalangan Centre for Classical Arts, New Delhi, Ragini imparts her profound understanding of Bharatanatyam, while her meticulous mentorship cultivates the next generation of dancers. She holds postgraduate degrees in English Literature and Public Relations and Advertising from Lady Shri Ram College for Women.
