Jhunu Sarkar: Where Color Becomes Life’s Silent Voice

Jhunu Sarkar, a self-taught artist from Calcutta, brings life’s beauty and curiosity to vivid expression through her evolving mastery of color and form.

Born in 1984 in Calcutta, Jhunu Sarkar is a self-taught artist who earned her Master’s degree from Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar University in 2016. For her, painting is a personal language, an intimate way to explore curiosity, innocence, and the beauty of life. Her works are vibrant, layered compositions that create dynamic forces through color, resonating with emotional depth.

With over two decades of experience, Jhunu’s journey has been shaped by her close collaboration with the renowned artist Ranjit Sarkar. She began with a three-year diploma from Sarba Bhartiya Kala Parishad, Kolkata, and curated her first group show, ‘Black,’ at Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi, in 2015. Her fascination with abstract themes continued to grow, leading to an exhibition at Lokayata Art Gallery in 2016.

Her 2023 solo exhibition, ‘Brishti,’ at the India Habitat Center, New Delhi, reflects her deepening exploration of color and form, capturing the world through her evolving artistic vision.
