Bipul Chandra Das, the first Assamese awarded the National Scholarship by India’s Department of Culture, stands as a towering figure in Kathak. With a Diploma from Kathak Kendra, New Delhi, and a Sangeet Alankar from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Mumbai, he founded Mridanga in Guwahati, igniting a beacon of Kathak excellence. Trained by luminaries like Late Guru Kundanlal Gangani and Padmavibhushan Pt. Birju Maharaj, Das fuses Jaipur and Lucknow styles with unparalleled Abhinaya.

His global performances, from Russia to the USA, have left indelible marks. A former lecturer at Luit Konwar Rudra Barua State College of Music in Assam, his choreographies blend tradition and innovation, addressing contemporary themes with profound artistry. His honors include the prestigious Nritya Samrat Pt. Birju Maharaj Ji Award and the Bishnu Rabha Bota.
