Dancing Through Decades: Bharat’s Saga

Bharat Sharma, a dance luminary, shapes artistry for five decades, leaving a global impact through exceptional performances and innovative choreography.

Bharat Sharma's extensive career, spanning over five decades, is a tapestry of diverse experiences in the realm of performing arts. As a performer, choreographer, teacher, writer, technician, and arts administrator, Bharat's journey reflects a deep-rooted connection to dance and its various facets. Born into a family of dancers, he received grooming in choreography from his father, Narendra Sharma, at Bhoomika Creative Dance Centre in New Delhi.

His training encompasses Mayurbhanj Chhau and Kathakali, supplemented by scholarships and fellowships that allowed him to explore modern dance, ballet, and jazz techniques in the USA. A prolific dancer, Bharat's solo performances, both with Bhoomika and independently, have graced stages worldwide, participating in renowned festivals.

His choreographic endeavors include notable works like 'Utthaan,' 'Swapnakosh,' 'Nightingale,' and 'Metro! Metro!' for Bhoomika. Beyond his role as a performer, Bharat has contributed significantly to arts administration, playing a key role in establishing the India Foundation for the Arts and spearheading collaborative projects. As an educator, Bharat served as a Reader (Associate Professor) at the University of Hyderabad, teaching choreography and modern techniques.

In 2022, he recently manifested as the Artistic Director of Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, cementing his continued influence in the performing arts and dedication to cultural enrichment.
