Urmi Dani, hailing from Mumbai, India, emerges from a traditional Gujarati background, enriched with a diverse skill set. With over 35 years of experience, she’s a multifaceted artist excelling in Bharatanatyam, Folk Dance, Calligraphy, Yoga, and singing. Her journey began at the age of six under her late mother’s guidance, and she has been unwavering in her pursuit of excellence. As the Artistic Director at Natyakala Academy of Bharatanatyam since 1987, Urmi has nurtured numerous talents. Notably, she initiated her first batch of students’ Arangetram at a young age of 23, becoming one of the youngest Gurus to do so. Her academic achievements include a National Scholarship, Nritya Visharad, a Master’s degree in Bharatanatyam, and she’s UGC.NET Qualified for Ph.D. and Assistant Professorship. Urmi also holds a Guinness World Record in Bharatanatyam and was honored with the Maharashtra State Award for Best Teacher in 2023. She continues to share her passion for Bharatanatyam through performances, workshops, and her commitment to pursuing Ph.D. research for the art’s enrichment.
