Where the Songs Come From

Artist’s Reflection

The one thing I fearlessly protect is the child in me.

The world constantly pushes us to grow up, to become practical, productive, and focused on outcomes. But I’ve learned that creativity lives in the childlike parts of us: the parts that are still curious, hopeful, able to see the good in others, and still capable of wonder.

I try to protect the part of me that still stops for a beautiful sunset, still feels called by the ocean, still gets excited about discovering a new place, meeting new people, and still gets goosebumps while listening to a great song.

As a songwriter, I’ve realized that the best songs are rarely written from knowledge alone. They are written from feeling, from love, vulnerability, loss, heartbreak, joy, hope, gratitude, and the simple day-to-day experiences that make us human.

So no matter what life throws at me, I never want to lose that sense of wonder, curiosity, optimism, and possibility. Because the day I lose the child in me is probably the day I stop creating honestly. And for me, honest creativity is the only kind that truly matters.
